At ITB Berlin Technology, Tours and Activities Platform for Fastest-Growing Markets - TOP25EXPERIENCES.com - TRAVELINDEXBerlin, Germany, January 26, 2023 / TRAVELINDEX / For the second time, the Technology, Tours and Activities (TTA) segment is represented live at the World’s Largest Travel Trade Show. The TTA marketplace and TTA Forum augment a wide-ranging programme with networking events and convention sessions for trade visitors and exhibitors.

Four years ago the Technology, Tours & Activities (TTA) segment was the first of its kind in Europe to successfully debut at ITB Berlin. In 2019 already, exhibitors, trade visitors, speakers and several hundred participants were able to build contacts, exchange experiences and discuss forward-looking topics surrounding one of the fastest-growing markets of the travel industry. From 7 to 9 March at ITB Berlin 2023, the TTA segment will again gather the relevant players of the tourism industry.

Inside the display area in Hall 4.1, the TTA segment is the main platform for three of the tourism industry’s most important markets, which all have one goal: to promote and sell in-destination services. The TTA marketplace at ITB is an important meeting place for tour managers, operators, technology specialists, travel destinations and agencies. This is where trade visitors will find startups as well as established companies exhibiting their products.

eTravel Track – TTA Forum focuses on trends, discussions and innovations

At the ITB Berlin Convention at the TTA Forum of the eTravel track, informative sessions on Tours & Activities featuring the latest survey findings, trends, numerous insights and discussions await trade visitors. Industry experts will provide first-hand information on specialist topics. Ahead of Wednesday’s TTA Forum, on Tuesday, 7 March 2023 on the Orange Stage in Hall 7.1, Johannes Reck, CEO of GetYourGuide, and Douglas Quinby, co-founder and CEO of Arival, will kick off themed events.

Charlotte Lamp Davies of A Bright Approach, the moderator at the TTA Forum, said: “I am really delighted to be able to moderate a live TTA Forum again. In 2019, when the event was launched, we witnessed one of the busiest days at ITB Berlin. The industry is desperately awaiting its return. We have prepared a wide-ranging programme and look forward to live participation from the audience. The afternoon session will provide insights and specific tips for travel and tour operators.”

On the afternoon of Wednesday, 8 March 2023, industry experts will take a look at the future and discuss changing consumer behaviour, sustainability, corporate partnerships and the use of new technologies. The ITB Berlin Convention slogan ’Mastering transformation’ is particularly relevant to the Tours & Activities industry. Recent events and profound challenges have changed consumer behaviour, the focus and booking patterns in this sector.

At several interactive sessions on the ITB eTravel Stage in Hall 6.1, TTA specialists will have information on the latest trends, look to the future and offer practical tips. Douglas Quinby, co-founder and CEO of Arival and moderator of a C-Suite panel hosted by TourRadar, Tiqets and Viator, will highlight how adjusting to new technologies has changed consumer behaviour. Travel Curious, Hyatt, G Adventures and Planeterra will present case studies illustrating successful partnerships. Layered Reality will demonstrate the potential AR has for the industry and explain how this technology can augment traditional tour products.

UNWTO and Development Bank of Latin America Partner for Tourism Investments

UNWTO and Development Bank of Latin America Partner for Tourism Investments - UNTOURISMNEWS.org - TRAVELINDEXCaracas, Venezuela, January 26, 2023 / TRAVELINDEX / UNWTO and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) will partner to promote and retain investment in tourism across the Latin American and Caribbean Region. As the sector’s recovery continues, the United Nations specialized agency for tourism has highlighted the importance of investments for building a more sustainable and resilient sector. The new cooperation agreement with CAF was announced against the backdrop of the FITUR trade fair in Madrid. Here, UNWTO welcomed high-level representatives from Member States of the region and from the private sector.

The joint plans will see the two organizations work together to develop a set of comprehensive tourism investment guidelines. The guidelines will be focused on five countries, namely Ecuador, Uruguay, Panama and El Salvador in the Latin American region, as well as and Barbados in the Caribbean region.

With this new partnership agreement, UNWTO and CAF will work together to boost investment into the sector and to target it towards projects and initiatives that will make the biggest difference

Alongside this, UNWTO and CAF will collaborate on the development of frameworks to attract, promote and retain foreign direct investment (FDI) towards sustainable tourism initiatives and to accelerate economic recovery and foster sustainability and resilience throughout the tourism sector.

Tourism as a driver of regional growth

UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili says: “Tourism is a recognized driver of sustainable development, growth and opportunity across the Latin American and Caribbean regions. With this new partnership agreement, UNWTO and CAF will work together to boost investment into the sector and to target it towards projects and initiatives that will make the biggest difference.”

CAF Executive President, Sergio Diaz-Granados, says: “We are implementing an agenda to become the Green Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean, that will also include the development of sustainable and regenerative tourism. A proof of our commitment is that we are the first multilateral institution to sign the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism. The partnership with UNWTO will boost our tourist sector approach and will help us reach our goals.”

Growing investments in tourism

UNWTO recently confirmed that World Tourism Day 2023 (27 September) will be held around the theme of ‘Tourism and Green Investments’. This new partnership with CAF builds on its work promoting investments in tourism, including through its Doing Business Guidelines, publications focused on individual countries in every global region.

CAF is an accredited entity of the Green Climate Fund and in collaboration with UNWTO, their member countries will be able to access innovative financing models that reduce investment risk, supporting climate adaptation and mitigation policies and reducing the energy dependence of the sector. The work will complement the progress being made through the Glasgow Declaration: A Decade of Action for Climate and Tourism, launched at the UN Climate Summit in 2022 with the aim of guiding the sector to Net-Zero emissions by 2050 at the latest.

“Handwritten Collection enriches Accor’s offering in the ‘collection brands’ segment with a curated selection of hotels that exhibit charming and one-of-a-kind concepts. Our aim, beyond delivering a truly authentic guest experience, is to support the growing number of independent and boutique hotel owners looking to boost their global profile, connect with more audiences and grow their revenue without losing their identity,” said Alex Schellenberger, Chief Marketing Officer, Premium, Midscale, Economy Brands, Accor. “The hotels we will feature in Handwritten Collection are those sought out by travelers who appreciate heartwarming travel experiences and a twist on traditional hospitality, as well as by hoteliers who cherish the unique personality of their properties while desiring the benefits that come with a leading global partner.”

With the creation of Handwritten Collection, Accor is broadening its unrivalled brand portfolio and midscale hotel offerings and will look to replicate the success it has achieved with the Group’s other collection brands across other segments. This includes the MGallery Hotel Collection, a storied portfolio in the upper upscale brand segment that now counts more than 100 boutique hotels worldwide and Emblems Collection, Accor’s first luxury collection brand, a carefully curated selection of distinctive hotels that are emblematic of their destination, designer or place in history. With a similar bespoke approach, Handwritten Collection will bring together hotels with individual personalities, intimately reflecting the character and warmth of the people who love and look after them. Like a handwritten note, each host’s individual touches will be subtly encountered at select moments throughout the guest journey. From a warm welcome that cascades into conversation, to freshly baked treats that have guests sneaking seconds into their pockets, no two hotels or stays will be the same.

A Host with Passion

Handwritten Collection offers a variety of hotels that are so distinct, it’s as if each local hotelier were inviting guests into their charming and stylish homes. The guest experience at Handwritten Collection brings to life the spirit of the host: their tastes, their passions and the little quirks of their personality. Each local hotelier provides a charming presence that weaves their character and personality into the fabric of their hotel, engaging guests with local wisdom and delightful conversation, bringing a personalized energy to the guest experience.

“The manner in which each host interacts with their guests is thoughtfully considered and brings to life their own personal passions,” added Caroline Bénard, Global SVP Economy & Midscale Brands, Accor. “Whether in a social setting or the privacy of a guest’s room, there will be moments of storytelling and engagement that create a genuine connection. This rapport between host and guest contributes to a more meaningful and memorable stay experience.’

Designed for Independent Hoteliers

The Handwritten Collection is also designed with the needs of independent hotel owners in mind. With a current conversion rate of 80%, the bulk of properties joining Handwritten Collection will be conversion projects rather than new builds, requiring a simpler transition and ramp up process and a more sustainable growth and development model. The brand’s standards are designed to be flexible, light, and easy to attain. Moreover, Handwritten Collection provides direct ROI and the opportunity for owners to maximize revenue with immediate access to the power and reach of Accor’s sales, distribution and loyalty platforms, while also benefiting from the Group’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) capabilities.

“In 2022, Accor signed on average globally more than one hotel per day and opened nearly one hotel per day. We aim to continue this growth by anticipating the needs of our guests and aligning with the investment criteria of our partners and owners. Independent hotels are increasingly seeking the strength of Accor’s powerful sales, distribution and loyalty platform to increase their revenue and assist them in optimizing their costs, whilst retaining their own distinctive personality and offering a highly qualitative product, service and experience. Handwritten Collection offers them an ideal solution, providing the option for a franchise contract and a flexible and cost-effective level of investment. We look forward to working collaboratively with owners and partners and welcoming additional hotels from around the world into this outstanding collection. With over 110 properties and 11,500 rooms in negotiation to become part of Handwritten Collection, including 12 hotels committed already, we aim to have over 250 properties by 2030.” said Camil Yazbeck, Global Chief Development Officer, Premium, Midscale, Economy, Accor.

Málaga Selected Global Headquarters for the Future of Tourism Coalition

Málaga Selected Global Headquarters for the Future of Tourism Coalition - TOURISMSPAIN.org - TRAVELINDEXMalaga, Spain, January 24, 2023 / TRAVELINDEX / Málaga will become the seat of the first ever Future of Tourism Coalition (FoTC) global headquarters and will act as the FoTC’s European hub, following a multi-year agreement announced today.

The Coalition of six global tourism NGOs, which formed in 2020 during the COVID pandemic, has not, until now, had a physical office or dedicated staff resources. The Málaga HQ will enable the Coalition to form strong partnerships with businesses, governments, academic institutions and NGOs, and work with these stakeholders to advance a more sustainable tourism system in the Andalucía region. The headquarters will be hosted by the City Council of Málaga, the Chamber of Commerce of Málaga, the Provincial Government of Málaga through Turismo Costa del Sol, and the Regional Government of Andalucía. This headquarters will also provide a hub for broader project activity in Spain, Europe and the Mediterranean basin.

Málaga will be supported by the Coalition’s six global NGOs (the Center for Responsible Travel, Destination Stewardship Center, Green Destinations, Sustainable Travel International, Tourism Cares, and the Travel Foundation), each with specialist knowledge and tools, to shape a workplan for 2023-24 and beyond. This is an opportunity to put into practice the 13 guiding principles of the Coalition, which put destination needs at the centre of tourism decision-making. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate the potential of destination-level activity to deliver on the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Action in Tourism, as Málaga also announces its intention to join this initiative.

Jeremy Sampson, Chair of the Future of Tourism Coalition, commented:
“This is a hugely exciting and logical next step for the Future of Tourism Coalition. Málaga and the Andalucía region will become our hub for innovation, a testbed for new and existing ideas that demonstrate the Coalition’s guiding principles in action. Together we will show the benefits of a balanced, collaborative, big picture approach to tourism management, drawing on the considerable expertise across the partnership and building on the significant range of initiatives already in place in Málaga. We believe in Málaga’s commitment to sustainable change, demonstrated by their strong candidacy to host the Expo2027 on sustainable cities of the future.”

Arturo Bernal, Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport at the Autonomous Government of Andalusia, said:
“One of the variables that makes Andalusia and the Costa del Sol a worldwide reference is its capacity for innovation and its ability to adapt. At this time, when the industry is immersed in a change of cycle, the fact that Malaga has been chosen as the headquarters for this initiative is great news that ratifies our leadership.”

Jacobo Florido, Deputy Mayor and Tourism Counselor said:
“By providing the Coalition’s headquarters, we support its mission to build the case for a better kind of tourism, while also accelerating Málaga into a global sustainable leading position. We have come a long way on our sustainability journey, and now look forward to working with the global leaders and other worldwide forward-thinking organisations that are part of the Future of Tourism community, to develop tourism that brings real added value to Málaga, as a place to live, work, study, play and, of course, to visit.”

Sergio Cuberos, President of the Málaga Chamber of Commerce said:
“The present and future of tourism depends on destinations which incorporate the Sustainable Development Goals into their management and business strategy. For this reason, it is extremely interesting and appropriate that Málaga hosts the Future of Tourism Coalition initiative, as it will represent a magnificent opportunity to inspire markets that are looking for sustainable travel, and thus demonstrate our responsibility and the social role of our companies in tourism activity.”

Further information on the full programme of work that will be undertaken in Málaga and Andalucía will be announced early next year. The experiences and lessons learned from the partnership will be shared widely through the Coalition’s global networks, including its community of more than 700 like-minded organisations that have so far aligned with the guiding principles. There are also plans for a Future of Tourism Summit event to be held in Málaga in 2024.

The Future of Tourism Coalition is a collaborative effort to chart a new, more sustainable direction for tourism and shift the status quo. The Coalition is comprised of six non governmental organisations, the Center for Responsible Travel (CREST), Destination Stewardship Center, Green Destinations, Sustainable Travel International, Tourism Cares, and the Travel Foundation. The Coalition is pursuing a shared global mission to place destination needs at the centre of tourism’s new future. Through commitment to their 13 Guiding Principles, the greater travel industry and destination agencies can align around a path forward for a more sustainable future for tourism.

Málaga Tourism Board is the institution in charge of developing sustainable tourism in the vibrant city of Málaga, being considered by the industry experts as the most rising destination in Europe for cosmopolitan and cultural travellers due to its unique mix of experiences. Málaga Tourism Board deploys its policies and strategies based on the principles of sustainable tourism and UNSDGs, improving the tourism offer of the city, and focused on the authentic roots, heritage, and lifestyle of an international city with more than 3000 years of history.

WTTC Paris is World’s Most Powerful City Destination

WTTC Paris is World’s Most Powerful City Destination - PARISINFO.net - TRAVELINDEXLondon, United Kingdom, January 23, 2023 / TRAVELINDEX / New research from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) reveals French capital Paris as the world’s most powerful city destination but predicts it will be overtaken by Beijing by 2032.

The report, sponsored by Visa and researched in partnership with Oxford Economics, analysed key indicators such as Travel & Tourism’s contribution to GDP, employment and traveller spend.

COVID-19 had a devastating impact on Travel & Tourism and in particular major cities around the world as countries closed their borders in response to the pandemic.

As borders reopened, many leisure travellers swapped city visits for less-populated destinations such as coastal and rural destinations, but latest research from WTTC shows that city holidays are back and growing in popularity.

Paris takes the crown as the world’s most powerful city destination with a Travel & Tourism sector worth almost $36BN USD in 2022, in terms of direct GDP contribution to the city.

Over the next 10 years, WTTC predicts it will drop down to third place, although its value will rise to over $49BN.

Beijing is currently the second biggest city destination in the world with a Travel & Tourism sector worth nearly $33BN. However, WTTC predicts it will leapfrog Paris within the next 10 years, growing to a staggering $77BN.

Often dubbed the theme park capital of the world, Orlando’s Travel & Tourism sector was valued at $31BN in 2022, but despite predictions suggesting it will grow by almost 50% to $45BN by 2032, it will drop down to become the fourth biggest city destination.

China’s national Travel & Tourism sector has seen phenomenal growth over the last decade as the country has invested in new hotels, transport infrastructure and new tourist destinations.

This investment in Travel & Tourism sees Shanghai’s sector, worth nearly $30BN last year, predicted to more than double to almost $71BN by 2032, to become the world’s second most powerful city destination.

Las Vegas is the only city in the top 10 list which holds its place, firmly staying as the 5th largest city destination.

Last year, Las Vegas’s Travel & Tourism sector was worth nearly $23BN and is predicted to grow to over $36BN by 2032.

Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO, said: “Major cities such as London, Paris and New York will remain global powerhouses but over the next few years, Beijing, Shanghai, and Macau will be moving up the list of top city destinations.

“Tourists will always have favourite cities that they will return to, but as other countries prioritise Travel & Tourism, we are going to see new and emerging destinations challenging the traditional favourites.”

Other cities outside the top 10 showing promising growth as emerging destinations include the Polish capital of Warsaw which has seen a 14.4% increase in its GDP contribution in 2022 versus 2019.

Sanya, the Chinese coastal city which has become a popular tourist destination in recent years as holidaymakers visited its stunning beaches witnessed a 10.2% growth during that same period. Its Travel & Tourism sector represents an incredible 43.6% of the city’s total economy. Macau’s Travel & Tourism sector represents 40.4% of the city’s total economy.

Orlando and Las Vegas are the only cities currently in the top 10 most powerful city destinations based on the sector’s value, which rely heavily on the sector as a share of the city’s overall economy.

Travel & Tourism represents 20.4% of Orlando’s economy and 16.3% of Las Vegas’s economy. In comparison, Paris’s Travel & Tourism sector represents just 3.5% of the capital’s economy in 2022.

Top 10 Cities Based on Direct Travel & Tourism GDP in real terms for 2022:
1. Paris – $35.65BN
2. Beijing – $32.62BN
3. Orlando – $31.1BN
4. Shanghai – $29.69BN
5. Las Vegas – $22.99BN
6. New York – $21.09BN
7. Tokyo – $17.97BN
8. Mexico City – $16.76BN
9. London – $14.92BN
10. Guangzhou – $13.15BN

The top five cities with biggest international travellers spend in 2022 were:

1. Dubai – $29.42BN
2. Doha – $16.79BN
3. London – $16.07BN

At FITUR 2023 UNWTO Served as Bridge Between Public and Private Leaders

At FITUR 2023 UNWTO Served as Bridge Between Public and Private Leaders - TRAVELINDEXMadrid, Spain, January 21, 2023 / TRAVELINDEX / At FITUR 2023, UNWTO served as the bridge between public and private leaders to advance plans to build a more diverse, resilient and sustainable tourism sector.

With the latest UNWTO data pointing to a return to pre-pandemic arrival levels in some world regions in 2023, Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili once again joined His Majesty King Felipe VI of Spain in opening the major travel trade fair. Reflecting the Organization’s priorities, UNWTO placed tourism investments, rural development, diversification, sustainability and accessibility centre stage over the course of four days.

Investment and building trust

Against the backdrop of FITUR, UNWTO and the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF) strengthened their existing partnership to further advance UNWTO’s work to attract and retain investment in tourism. The partnership will include the production of tourism investment guidelines, initially focused on Barbados, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama and Uruguay. Both organizations will develop frameworks to attract, promote and retain foreign direct investment in sustainable tourism initiatives across the Americas.

UNWTO recognized the progress made in rethinking the role of tourism in the economies and societies of the region. The President of the Republic of Guatemala, Alejandro Giammattei, and the Executive President of Banco Popular of the Dominican Republic, Christopher Paniagua, were formally recognized by UNWTO for their commitment to mainstreaming tourism in economic policy and financing, respectively. At FITUR, President Giammattei also confirmed the adherence of Guatemala to the UNWTO International Code for the Protection of Tourists.

Widening the scope of tourism

As part of UNWTO’s work to diversify the sector and enhance its status as a driver of rural development, the Spanish province of La Rioja was announced as the host of the 7th UNWTO Global Wine Tourism Conference later this year. Secretary-General Pololikashvili, the President of La Rioja, Concha Andreu, and Spain’s Minister of Tourism Reyes Maroto, highlighted the importance of the growing wine tourism sector for protecting culture and supporting local jobs and businesses.

UNWTO also recognized the importance of shopping tourism, with particular reference to its close links to leisure and gastronomy. A Memorandum of Understanding, signed by UNWTO and WOW Concept, will see the two work together to promote responsible urban tourism through joint promotions and events as well as through shared efforts to monitor and share trends in tourism consumption. Further diversifying the sector’s reach and impact, UNWTO also partnered with the Croatian National Tourist Board to announce the Second World Sports Tourism Congress. The agreement, signed  by Croatia’s Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac, will see the event held in  the city of Zadar on 26 and 27 April.

Tourism for all

To rethink accessible travel, UNWTO, Fundación ONCE and the Spanish Association for Standardization (UNE) co-organized a Seminar on Tourism for All, gathering national tourism administrations, destinations, companies and professional industry associations, underscoring the role of accessibility for social inclusion and business opportunity. The partners presented tools aimed at implementing the international standard UNE-ISO 21902 on Accessible Tourism for All, including with a new guide to applying it in accommodation and hospitality businesses.

Sustainability: On land and in oceans

UNWTO continued to step up tourism’s pace towards a more sustainable future. The Mexican State of Yucatán, home to some of the country’s top tourism destinations, is the latest addition of the UNWTO International Network of Sustainable Tourism Observatories (INSTO). Already numbering more than 30 worldwide, INSTO monitors tourism’s impact on local economies and habitats, allowing for smarter data-driven policymaking.

UNWTO concluded its week at FITUR by hosting a special meeting on Tourism for the Ocean and Climate Action at its Madrid headquarters. Counting on the participation of Member of the European Parliament Catherine Chabaut, as well as Ruben Eiras, Secretary General, Forum Oceano, Paul Holhtus, Founding President, World Ocean Council, and Josiane Sadaka, CEO of Blue Carbon LLC, the event saw UNWTO confirm its support for the BlueCOP28 and Dubai Blue Pact initiatives. For his work leading tourism towards greater sustainability, Frédéric Degret, the Founder and CEO at NOAH ReGen was named as the UNWTO Special Advisor for Oceans and Climate Emergency.

Strengthening relationships

FITUR 2023 provided the opportunity for UNWTO to strengthen relations with public and private sector leaders. UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili held a series of bilateral meetings to keep servicing the Organization’s Member States. The UNWTO leadership met with new Minister of Tourism of Jordan, Makram Mustafa Al-Qaisi, with the Minister of Tourism of Uruguay, Tabaré Viera; Deputy Minister of Tourism for Georgia, Nuno Fazenda, Minister of Tourism for Portugal, Mariam Kvrivishvili, Nuno Fazenda, Minister of Tourism for  Portugal, the Minister of Tourism of Nigeria, Lai Mohammed, the Governor of Puerto Rico Pedro Pierluisi as well as the Minister of Tourism of Puerto Rico Carlos Mercado, and also with Dario Item, Ambassador to Spain of UNWTO’s newest Member State, Antigua and Barbuda.

In a working meeting with Mariana Oleskiv, Chairperson of the State Agency for Tourism of Ukraine, Secretary-General Pololikashvili reaffirmed UNWTO’s firm support for Ukrainian’s citizens and noted tourism’s role for future recovery and as a pillar of peace. Meetings were also held with the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, Mayor of Skiathos Thodoris Tzoumas, the Israeli Ambassador to Spain, Rodica Radian-Gordon.

ITB China Announces Comeback as In-Person Event

ITB China Announces Comeback as In-Person Event - TRAVELINDEX - TRAVELNEWSHUBShanghai, China, January 20, 2023 / TRAVELINDEX / ITB China, the leading B2B exclusive travel trade show focusing on the Chinese travel market, announces its comeback as a live event. The show will once more bring together top-level buyers from China – the world’s biggest source market for international travel, together with global travel suppliers at its traditional location, the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center, between 12 and 14 September 2023.

“The immense Chinese travel market has significant pent-up demand that finally has a chance to meet supply. 2023 will see the emergence of new leaders, new collaborations, and new alliances. I’m happy that we will be integral part of this process, creating networking opportunities and facilitating face-to-face exchange with key players of the industry at this year’s physical event,” said David Axiotis, General Manager of Messe Berlin (Shanghai), the organizer of ITB China.

2023 is bound to be a crucial year for the return of China’s outbound travel market, as the government lifted the quarantine regulations for international travelers on January 8. The consumers responded to the news with skyrocketing web searches and bookings for international destinations, flights, and visa application appointments.

Trip.com Group’s leading Chinese language platform Ctrip, reported a tenfold year-on-year increase in the search volume of popular overseas destinations shortly after the news was released, with searches for outbound flight tickets reaching a three-year high.

“Over the last three years, Trip.com Group has adhered to our ‘local focus, global vision’ strategy, and expanded our globalisation efforts. We are looking forward to the return of ITB China, and hope to meet with our global partners this September in Shanghai to summarise the experience of the Chinese consumer and explore broader cooperation,” says Jane Sun, CEO of Trip.com Group.

The positive signals have prompted Chinese travel companies and agencies to immediately revitalize their outbound travel departments in anticipation of booming business in the very near future. The ITB China Travel Trends Report 2022/2023 released in December 2022 indicated strong optimism within the industry as one of the key trends and the ability to swiftly recover once borders open up again.

Travel data from Tongcheng Travel seems to support this optimistic outlook, as Chinese travelers booked international flights to more than 100 cities in 53 overseas destinations on January 8 alone.

As the race for market shares has commenced on both sides of the aisle, key players in the Chinese travel industry recognize the importance of networking and collaboration opportunities provided by ITB China.

“The new measures accelerated the recovery of the travel market in China, there is no doubt that travel demand will rebound. We need to plan ahead, update the contacts and rebuild the partnerships with global travel suppliers quickly. We are looking forward to establishing more overseas cooperation and explore more diversified, new, and unique travel products at this year’s ITB China.” says Zhang Lei, Senior Vice President of Utour Group Co.,Ltd
